Heyas,

Here is a simple way of doing some lighting in photoshop... hope this helps!
Compare the first and the last picture of Razah, you can see the light difference especially on the head dress and the armor. ^_^

Minami I love you! =D
But really, thanks so much.

Worked on some of the critiques and made a new wip.
Whaddya think?

On a side note, I can't seem to get the nail right, as in making it blend in with the rest of it. Any ideas?

Very nice!

(Btw, Minami, I love how you give step by step screenies )

With regards to the nail, it does seem to just be hovering there (the nail itself is good). Maybe if you give it a slight shadow with regards to your light source, then it'll 'anchor' it so it's not hovering anymore and feel like it's part of the picture.

Perhaps you should make the nail go into the poster from an angle, so you see the head of the nail on a slant, and you see some of the neck of the nail which would be going into the poster - then, of course, add in a shadow of the nail.

You could go with just a nail, but make the shadow a little bigger - as if the nail was sticking out more.

Another thing you could do is to make it look like the nail is an impression from the rest of the poster - so some of the poster would be pushed back, giving depth to where the nail is.

I would assume most posters that would be put in via a nail wouldn't have the nail driven all the way in, so that they can easily be pulled out - but they'd have to go in a considerable amount so that the nail isn't pulled out by random passersby.

Thanks for the ideas everyone! I got my burn permit, so we can only hope that tomorrow or the next day is a permissive burn day. That'll be when I do it. :3

Maybe you could use the pen tool to re-draw the mad king and make him not so. . . polygonal?

*snipety-snapety*
So, it doesn't stand up well? Run some longer twigs through the feet, glue them in place there, and put the pumpkins/other weights near the twigs' ends. Do this to different directions and with different twigs, so you get an overall good balance. This is a good way of getting the center of the mass on the supporting surface and not over its edges. Tried it a couple of times and it worked. Looking very good though.

Thanks for the nice comments, folks! I'll be giving this thread a better look later today, I'm in a little hurry now.

Sooooooooo.............

I started a new picture XD XD

Right now, I just finished blocking in the colors, and got done with Razah's skin. OMG by the time I got that ashy hue right D:

I haven't tested my lighting idea yet, so this is a bit flat picture, but hopefully it'll all work out. ^_^

I think I reached that point where I can't possibly make this picture any more complicated to draw LOL

Some of the colors are still wrong, I have some testing layers turned on, sorry...

Hope y'all like it, and I hope I get finished with it in time O_O *hurries like crazy*

So it's 5:30 AM, been drawing since 10 PM last night. Again.

My drawing routine sucks haha.

Anyways, without further ado (mostly cuz I need to get back to drawing ), here is my progress pikshur.

I did some major lighting work, blended the skins, fixed some issues I had with layers, shaded the black part of Minami's top, drew her makeup and made her eyes, drew that shiny-twirly thing in the middle, "lit" the candles, and many many other things.

Shy Guy, when your light is coming from left to right, make sure your poster has a shadow going to the right side, next to that, I'd advise to have just the top of the nail(look one up on google and try to duplicate it as good as possible, with your own twist.) visable. Also, don't overdo the lighting, since your poster is actually rather small, be sure to keep atleast 3/4th of the picture visable (post #723 is also the best so far, in my opinion). The edges of the poster could also use some reworking, they're too artificial, you should make them look more real, just look at other posters in real life or so, and compare them to your own, you'll hopefully see what I mean.

@ Minami. I think the green parts of her outfit are looking much better on this version!

@ Kiya. Thanks ^_^ I haven't even blended them yet though
I'll do some edge blending later, but I need to pay attention not to mush it so much and to leave sharper lines in there too.

My brain is super tired, but since I can't go to sleep at least until 10 AM, I might as well be busting my ass with this pic ^_^

Minami, how do you manage to get all this energy to restart a drawing is beyond me! The idea also gets better each time XD. I did restart mine at least three times but I never get past the sketching part =P

I am loving the lighting on this new piece and the details in the armors are amazing

Thanks Raven ^_^

LOL energy... I have a gigantic can of Monster Energy Coffee right here *pats it*

The thing was that I was talking about my drawing with a friend, and somehow we got to brainstorm about pictures. It was her who suggested that I do a piccie like this, and she encouraged me to restart the drawing, saying "you can SO do it".

So I started it.

I wish I'd do these restarts around the sketch phase too, instead of an almost finished piece, hahaha But oh well, it makes for good practice (which I really need). ^_^

Thanks for the compliment I just finished blending the green armor parts (well.. so-so), I realized I'm gonna resize my picture to be like 1500 pixels wide or something, because when I work with a 4000 + pixels size picture, I get SO caught up in the details up close that I'd never ever get done D:

I need to continue on Razah's armor ASAP, I have a feeling it ain't gonna be easy >_>

I havent, yet advice is very welcome, I dont really know where I specifcly need more or less highlights/shadows. And yeah floor definatly needs some extra work, though I'm afraid I'll mess it up

So another wippie here:

Don't know what kinda cloths I will give the kid on the roof, thinking of some eloian raffled cloths. Also still not sure what line I want to put on the sign, still doubting between "All aplaude *enter* /clap" and "Everyone *enter* /Kneel"

All advices welcome <3

And Minami damn you! Another picture But again get some sleep!

@ Tommy. Is the giant pumpkin lump supposed to be sitting on the ground or coming out of the ground? Are you going for lumpy dirt ground or cobblestone? It looks like cobblestone to me and it seems to be sloping up the closer it is to the pumpkin lump so thats why I was asking. If it was sitting on the ground I would think something that huge (it could be a super heavy magical item!) could sink the ground around it a little, if it is popping out of the ground the slope up would work but need a little ring of dirt or shards. For the sign I would suggest just the command scrawled on it. I dont know if this would work, but maybe the handles of a few signs by his other hand to suggest he has one for each needed command.

Ok so another wip, I'm starting to want to go to the movies!

- I tried making the cobweb look like 'fake' but something's preventing me from doing so D:
- Also gave the bricks a bit of glow next to the candle.
- Oh and I've also added some cracks to the wood, I think I need them look a bit more realistic and add another color in the mix, don't you think?

Good point, already thought about it for a bit. Its coming out of the ground, so I wanted to make some broken stones around him, and a few standing against him. IF I can make that in time We'll see.

And you seem to read my mind, I also was planning on giving him multiple signs. But what you mean with scrawled? Like just "/clap" on the sign?

Hey guys, I'm almost done with the effigy and might burn it tonight. I'll get some finished pics up when I'm done before I burn it, and I'll make sure to actually use my photography skill to make them look good this time. Wish me luck!

Oh and yes, there will be before, during, and after video.
